Flaming Scarf - Two colour Brioche Stitch Scarf

English | Polski
Part I | Part II | Part III

GAUGE:8 sts - 4,5 cm (in Brioche Stitch before blocking). The gauge is given only as a reference point. You do not need to achive the same gauge knitting this scarf.
YARN:Red Heart "Lisa" 100% acrylic red colour 2x50gr, Red Heart "Lisa" 100% acrylic black colour 2x50gr. 100gr each colour. I do not recommend acrylic for the scarf – use something better than that – it is worth it!
NEEDLE:Bigger than recommended by the producer of the yarn. Red Heart recommendation is 4-4,5 mm, I used 5 mm.
OTHER MATERIALS: cable needle
SIZE OF THE SCARF:After blocking: 150cm x 23 cm. The size depends on the yarn you will use.

REMARKS

Read the introduction in the Part II, which tells you about Brioche Stitch. You will also find instruction for beginners there.

The scarf is reversible, you will see black stitch chains on one side and red stitch chains on the other side.

IMPORTANT
Slipping stitches to cable needle be particularly careful no to lose the sloppy diagonal loop. It is essential to pay attention to that because it is very easy to lose the loop during the operation. And then, it cause more mistakes.

CASTING ON
Cast on 50 stitches with two yarns. Every stitch consists of two yarns. Begin knitting with the black yarn. The red one will be the second one.

EDGE STITCH
The first stitch is slipped and the last stitch is knitted.
black yarn: slip the (first) edge stitch. The stitch consis of two yarns. Do not knit the last stitch with black yarn, just slip the last stitch.
red yarn: slip the (first) edge stitch. At the end of your fabric put this two yarns (red one and black one) together and knit the last stitch with two yarns.

CASTING OFF
Cast off with two yarns at one time. Slip the first stitch (edge stitch), work the second stitch (knit or purl as it goes), pull the first one over the second, work a third stitch, pull the second one over it, work a fourth stitch, pull the third one over it, and so on.

CHART
You can also download two cable charts:
  1. Ideological scheme – places where you cross stiteches are marked. Knit stitches and purl stitches are also marked. If you know how to brioche stitch knit – the scheme like this one is sufficient to knit the whole scarf.
  2. Detailed scheme – the places where you put yarn forward and knit two yarns are marked additionaly.
